Chesapeake Bay Project
Today, the Chesapeake Bay includes 11,000 miles of shore and expands over 200 miles. The Bay is more than 10,000 years old. It has always been a dynamic ecosystem in constant flux. However, since the industrial revolution human impacts have changed the bay significantly. With humans hastening climate change, the Bay could be gone by 2050. The bay’s shallow depth creates more wind and temperature problems that are a result of global warming, which has increased through the years, along with minerals, nutrients, and sediments.
Ellen Pompeo has the unique celebrity perspective of being a social media fanatic due to her avocation for global efforts and her impressive resume in Grey’s Anatomy. Social Media Rock Stars’ (SR) various years of experience allows them to attract a greater audience to Pompeo’s campaign by increasing the value of her personal brand. SR believes that to expand Pompeo’s campaign she will need to reach out to diverse television communities, as well as increase the use of the social media ‘backchannel’. Pompeo targets her young adult Twitter-based audience, as well as followers of producer Shonda Rhimes and the Thank God it’s Thursday (TGIT) network, gaining further support from the medical community that has a veracious following for Grey’s Anatomy. By analyzing competitors’ campaigns, it is obvious that Ellen Pompeo lacks the personal brand recognition, audience connectivity, and achievement of universal goals that Viola Davis and Kerry Washington attain. While Ellen Pompeo makes herself familiar with her millions and growing audience during the running of 12 seasons, she seems to have created unparalleled social media presence, but her campaign needs polish and finesse to market her image and enhance content depth. Utilizing strategies from her competitors in this new campaign, this proposal urges Pompeo to create a new clothing line, The Grey’s Collection, partner with The Ocean Project, which supports global efforts of her interests and effectively employ diverse social media platforms.
Independent Study: Solving an Engineering Problem Using Google SketchUp and Ruby Programming Tools
This independent study extends learning in AP Computer Science A and emphasizes technology skills including the use of programming and Google SketchUp. The student will utilize the SketchUp SDK including the SketchUp C API , a coding interface for understanding and producing data in SketchUp models to interact with SketchUp files (.skp), which will modify old files and create new files. The student will also use Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs), a human-computer interface that uses icons and other computer tools through the use of a mouse with the assistance of code. The SketchUp Ruby API uses the Ruby programming language to extend the development of the GUIs and ‘automate common tasks’. Ruby will be used as a scripting interface with SketchUp for the purpose of 3D modeling, and forming faces, objects, structures, and animations with the use of plugins to extend SketchUp’s basic functions. SketchUp will teach the student how to manipulate 3D tools with precise measurement and create concrete engineering designs. With these processes, the student will gain knowledge of 3D modeling. The goal of the course is to design, develop, and generate a final project based on these specific concepts and using ‘STREAM’ to support the needs of the Kent Place community and its buildings including the in-progress Center for Innovation.
